Summary:
In the aftermath of a forbidden moment that rocked Sydney to her core, she finds herself struggling to draw the line between her Alchemist teachings and what her heart is urging her to do. Then she meets alluring, rebellious Marcus Finch--a former Alchemist who escaped against all odds, and is now on the run. Marcus wants to teach Sydney the secrets he claims the Alchemists are hiding from her. But as he pushes her to rebel against the people who raised her, Sydney finds that breaking free is harder than she thought. There is an old and mysterious magic rooted deeply within her. And as she searches for an evil magic user targeting powerful young witches, she realizes that her only hope is to embrace her magical blood--or else she might be next.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, the Bloodlines series explores all the friendship, romance, battles, and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times best-selling Vampire Academy series so addictive—this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone’s out for blood.

Review:
I have to say, of the 3 books so far, this is my favourite one. For a number of reasons, and as fan-girly as it is, the main reason is because of all the Adrian and Sydney feels – or aptly named Sydrian. *fist pumps*

Okay so let me coherently phrase this review, without squealing too much about the relationship that’s been on my mind. In this book, Mead has definitely outdone herself in the way she has fleshed out Sydney’s character. I feel like we’re seeing a much stronger Sydney, more in control and rebellious than we’ve seen before. But it isn’t just that, but also how she’s beginning to question things more, rather than standing back and accepting them. She has come a long way from the partially confident girl we saw in Bloodlines. I’m a lot more on board with Sydney in this book.

As for the other characters *sigh* oh Adrian. He too has changed, become more mature all the while retaining that cheeky, mischievous Adrian we have come to love. His relationship with Sydney that has finally reached peak point, makes me smile so much. The way he acts around her, the way he treats her – how he’s protective over her *I’m a total out and out sucker for that kind of thing*. We saw a lot more chemistry, tension and just generally feeeeels between the two in this book and that made me REALLYY happy. As you can tell.

Aside from me totally shipping them, the book was everything you’ve come to expect from Mead’s writing – chemistry, mystery, suspense, realisations and revelations – all wrapped neatly with Mead’s signature style and well paced and of course this earns the book my thumbs up.

Be sure to check out my review for the first two books in the series, Bloodlines and The Golden Lily *click the title’s for the review*.
